A Few Updates at the Dollhouse

Monday, July 14, 2014

Hello there!  I hope you're having a great summer so far, even though it seems to be passing by so quickly!

Today I wanted to share a few little updates we've managed to get done at over here at The Dollhouse.

Let's start big.  Unbeknownst to you my foyer has been nothing more than a plywood sub floor for some time now.

I'm elated to report that over the weekend my hubby changed that situation for the better.

Yay!  And I think there's an opportunity for some sort of fun albeit small piece for the wall to the left, so I'll keep you posted when I find my love match.

Also, if you follow me on Instagram, then you already know that I recently purchased this sketch from a local artist.

and I've incorporated it into this vignette in my family room.  It's getting increasingly hard to find places to put things at my house.  I have no book cases or  mantels and my rooms are narrow so I don't even have side tables in most cases.  It's a struggle for this collector, so I'm layering art where I can.

So what's next you ask?  I've got my sights set on the hall bath.  When we moved in we tore out the old linoleum flooring and the tub surround  and replaced all of that with new white tile.

Nothing extravagant, but I wanted white tile to brighten up this dark space and make it feel cleaner.  I don't want to spill too many details about my plan for this lackluster space but I'm very excited about moving forward and I think it will be one of my very favorite makeovers at The Dollhouse.

In the meantime, this 1970's wallpaper is being stripped

and will be replaced with a Brunschwig & Fils kind of gorgeous.

and that's just the beginning.  Stay tuned, and if you'd like to stay updated with all things The Green Room Interiors, the best place to find me is on Instagram, so please follow along!

Fish Scales

Sunday, January 19, 2014

Today we're talking fish scales.  This pattern, like many patterns that most consider "modern", has been around for centuries.  The most recognizable application that comes to mind is the fish scale shingles seen on the exteriors of houses of the Victorian era. Fish scale shingles were used mainly in the gables of these homes.

And sometimes the fish scale design was used on roofing shingles.

But we're talking about  the here and the now, and the fish scale design seems to be gaining popularity - again.

Fish scales would be an easy fit in the bathroom

Here is a modern bathroom by Emily Henderson that features fish scale tiles on the floor.

And another bathroom that features fish scale tiles on the shower walls.

I love how the fish scale pattern was used as a border on the rug below.  It adds interest while being understated.

And for those of you that want to add a little touch of fish scale without a major commitment, why not add a fish scale pillow?

or this shower curtain from Jonathan Adler.
What do you think?  Do you like the fish scale pattern?

My LTR with Stripes

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

They're classic, they're fresh, and even a little bold.  My beloved stripes.  I've  loved them for a long time.   Especially on curtains.  Remember these from The One Room Challenge?

Many of my clients have seen stripes in their homes, too.

Okay, the stripe is subtle in the curtains above.  It's a tone on tone stripe.  But a stripe no less.

I've cyber-hugged this long distance client in Texas for taking a leap of faith and installing these penny tiles in a black and white stripe in the library renovation of her historic home.  Courage, people.

And from around the internets, some more stripey inspiration - with pretty colors!

How brilliant is the designer that used the bold black & white stripe on the settee to relax the formal architecture?

Stripes, I can't quit you! My love of stripes is so true and so deep, I've even devoted a Pinterest board to them. You can follow it here.

You must see this!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

I just love it when great post material shows up in my inbox! I got an email the other day from Lundy Wilde. She's the designer and brainchild behind Villa Lagoon Tile and a random Google search (about fabric) directed her to my blog.  One visit to her site and I knew I had to share this with the world!  Her company produces cement tiles based on designs, colors and patterns seen throughout Europe and the Middle East.

If you're not familiar with this flavor of fabulous, allow me to introduce you...

This laundry room floor is done in a patchwork of different patterns and colors.

Amazing as these are, Lundy also mentioned in her email that they are working with a manufacturer in Marrakesh to produce some Ikat patterened tiles!

You must visit Villa Lagoon Tile, this is truly the tip of the iceberg!

And you're welcome!!

Happy happy weekend!!!!
