Ebay Fabric Obsessions

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Is anyone else sick of all the playoff/bowl games that have been on TV over the past few weeks? I honestly don't mind watching the occasional football game with teams that I actually know and care about, but to watch game after game (after game) is not my idea of a good time.  So whilst the husband was alternately cheering and cursing at the TV, I made good use of my time by doing a little cyber fabric stalking, ebay style.  Have you tumbled down this rabbit hole yet? If you haven't,  you're missing out on some good stuff.

Like Brunschwig &Fils "Kyoto"  Completely lovely, super affordable, and there's enough to make a few pillows.

Or "Chinese Peony" from JP& G Baker, priced at just under $30 per yard. It's a polished cotton chintz in a gorgeous mint green.

Are you on the blue & white bandwagon? Here's a fabulous print you won't see all over town.

I love this one.  Don't judge.

Or what about Cowtan & Tout's Bloomsbury. Ultra-feminine and old school, but everything in moderation right?

Trust me, this is only the beginning.  And while we're on the subject of shopping, guess who's going to Scott's Antique Market??  Super excited!!!  I haven't been to Scott's in about 4 years so I'm really looking forward to the entire experience.  It's always so fun!  Look for lots of pictures on my Instagram feed.

Happy shopping everyone!

Blue & White Monday - The Exterior Files

Monday, September 30, 2013

I'm very excited to participate in The Pink Pagoda's first Blue & White Monday link-up event.  Do you find that Jennifer's Blue & White Monday series actually makes you look forward to Monday?  Me too.

I thought it might be fun to share some inspiring images of blue& white exteriors.  Have you ever thought of this never-fail color scheme for the outside of your home?

This image is for Jennifer, because we know how much she loves blue and white with some pink mixed in.

Note to self:  plan a trip to Greece sometime soon.

Greece again.  That saturated cobalt blue is amazing in the intense Grecian sunlight.

How about some blue & white on good old American architecture.

Clever how the blue & white planters echo the color palette of the house.

And finally, this one, for those that lean toward softer colors.

What do you think?  Are you a fan of blue & white on the exterior or do your prefer your blue & white indoors?

Regarding Pinterest

Monday, March 18, 2013

So about Pinterest.  I was later than a lot of you to open an account, and even later to actually create my boards and start pinning.  Between blogging, facebook, work, family and everything else, I just didn't want to commit to another social networking platform.  I'm so glad I had a change of heart, because, good Lord,  I'm in awe over the number of fantastic images, ideas and recipes I'll never make to be pinned every day!

Do you have the Pinterest app? It's the end of boredom as we know it. Carpool lines, waiting rooms, and sporting events will never be the same.

I'm fascinated by what the people I'm following are pinning, and I'm astounded by the number of incredible design images that are floating around out there.  A wealth of inspiration for the taking!

And just a few weeks ago, someone I admire/idolize became a follower.

Meg Braff. Color me tickled.

Are any of your idols your followers?

Make sure you stop by Wednesday.  I'll be revealing my family room makeover for the One Room Challenge!

New at My Booth

Sunday, September 16, 2012

I haven't posted about any of the items I have for sale in my booth for a while, so it's high time I show you one of my favorite pieces! This pretty cottage style bed is an estate sale find and is over at my space at Merchants on Main.

I'm not sure how old it is but it's a full size bed and comes complete with all the rails, which is sometimes hard to find with antique beds. The bed is creamy white with gold details, and is still wearing it's original paint.  The gold details give it a sophisticated feel, and I think this bed could be the centerpiece of a beautiful Swedish country bedroom.

Swedish country rooms are typically clean, light and simple. There are no busy patterns, and nothing edgy or pretentious. Think soft colors and checks or stripes.

To get the ball rolling, I've done a little shopping for you to help you create your own Swedish Country bedroom. All you have to do is buy my bed and add these readily available companions!

I've also added some photos of other new items (some great stuff!!!) I have in  my booth over on  my Facebook page.  If you stop by for a look, be sure and like us!

Happy Monday, kids!

Wallpaper Resource

Monday, June 11, 2012

I'm not even sure how I got there, but a few weeks ago I came across Sidney Harbour Paints and got completely lost in their wallpaper selections. Sydney Harbour Paint Company is based in Australia, but I gather from their website that they have a location in California, too. Most of the papers I saw were nature-themed  with a modern attitude.  All were gorgeous and I wanted to use each and every one of them!

This fresh floral is called "Spring" and it's from Bowie Wong's collection,.

The charming "Round and Round the Garden" is from Anna Spiro's collection.  I'd love to see this in a kitchen.

Of all of the designers collections, my favorite was by Catherine Martin.  Most of her patterns featured birds in a very bold and modern way. The pattern below is called "Pheasant" , and it's shown here in Chocolate.

Also from Catherine Martin's collection is "Lyre Bird".

And Catherine Martin's "Cockatoo"

Here is"Dandelion". The scale of the print and the neutral tones make this botanical print feel current.

"Passion Flower" in pink

Ducks have come a long way since the 80's. This is "Marjorie Duck" by Bholu,
All images above from Sydney Harbour Paint Company.

Do you have a favorite?

Olioboard

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Have you been to Olioboard yet?  It's a site that's very similar to Polyvore, an online resource for creating inspiration boards. The advantage of Olioboard is that it's much easier for me  those who are not so technologically advanced!  Olioboard is exclusively devoted to creating interior design moodboards, and there are tons of options to choose from for furniture, accessories, lighting, rugs and even art!  It's completely free and you can click on any element on your board and get a link on where to purchase it.

My first time on Olioboard I created this board in about 20 minutes.

It's especially helpful for those who have a hard time envisioning the "finished product".

Be warned - its lots of fun and just might be addicting!

Have you discovered Olioboard yet?

Secretariat

Monday, October 18, 2010

Saturday I took my daughter to see the Disney movie Secretariat.  If you have visited my blog in the past you may already know that I used to be big into horses.  I started riding when my Dad surprised me with riding lessons for my 11th birthday.  I was instantly hooked and spent the better part of my next 25 years in a barn. After the birth of my second child and juggling  being mom, wife, and business owner, something had to give - and it was the horses.  I made  my peace with it, and saved the most meaningful remnants of my riding days. I still have my saddle, my favorite bridle, some old horse show ribbons and all of my horse books.

The movie was wonderful and full of emotional moments for me.  Witnessing the birth of a foal is a life-changing experience.  Somehow they are so fragile and so strong at the same time - standing on long wobbly legs just hours after being born.

Young Secretariat

I found myself being nervous and excited before every racing scene, even though I already  knew the outcome.  The race scenes were a mix of emotions - both happy (for the appreciation and gratitude I felt for the years I got to spend bonding and caring for these incredible animals) and sad (I miss it).

Secretariat may not be movie of the year, but you'll the theater feeling good - and inspired! My only regret is that I forgot to bring tissue!

Hope your week is dreamy!

Change is good!

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

As we settle back into the house we lived in a few years ago, everyone expects that all of our things will go back to their original "place", and the house will look just as it did when we lived here before.  (This was never my plan.)  They question why the chairs that were in front of the fireplace are now near the sofa.  Weird.  I plan to keep pushing them out of their comfort zone by reinventing my house with most of the things I already have.  That means that paint will be the theme of this makeover, with a few new accessories and art pieces mixed in.

The first choice I made in  my family room was to bring in this vintage oriental rug that used to be in the guest bedroom.

I love the cozy feel it brings to the room but more importantly, this rug is bulletproof. This is our family room, where my kids will eat cheetos while watching tv and the the dogs will continue to debate who is boss.  This rug forgives it all!

Another plus for Oriental rugs - you can pull so many colors from them.  Normally I am drawn to light, muted colors, and I had planned to  paint the walls a soft, bluish-grayish green. I have reconsidered and  instead want my family room to be a cozy departure from the rest of my house, so my thought is to pull the rich peacock blue from the rug and put it on my walls.  This is a real departure for me - I usually go with something light and/or something green.  Is it weird to "cheat" on your favorite color?

Gorgeous peacock blue dining room from Suzanne Kasler (on a side-note, I had a dream last night that I met her at my mom's friend's house).  She was cool.

Peacock blue really shines with a lacquered finish (pun intended).

Looks so great with lots of white and a few accents of  hot pink...

and lemon yellow.

Toe-curling great!  Love the pink & yellow with it!

Have you cheated on any of your favorites lately?
